Popis: The effect of various design parameters on the flow rate of corn with a range of moisture contents was investigated. Parameters studied included auger speed, type of auger screw, inlet length, vertical metering, and addition of oil to the corn. The best configuration for an auger for use to meter corn for a fungicide applicator was the standard-pitch screw with the long inlet opening. Flow rate of corn having moisture contents ranging from 15.5% to 25% varied less than 7.5% with this arrangement. Use of a vertical metering auger did not improve flow rate variation for corn having varying moisture content as compared to the standard screw configuration. The application of oil had no benefit in metering corn in an auger.
