A sucessful localization of potential Ca2+ -binding sites would be of high value for interpreting the possible involvement of cell organelles in calcium regulated phenomena. We therefore tested the method of Belitser (1,2) on pollen tubes of Lilium longiflorum, where Ca2+ seems to be involved in maintenance of oriented growth, vesicle fusion, and transport, cytoplasmic streaming, regulation of the cortical microfilament network, and wall stiffening (3–6), and on maize calyptra cells, where Ca2+ should be involved in the regulation of the slime secretion process, and in transducing the gravitropism signal (7,8). |
