Popis: A significant number of road traffic accidents can be directly attributed to danger caused by unfavorable weather conditions. Road weather information system (RWIS) can provide a highly targeted information customized to area specificity. Well-build and developed system that provides real time high quality information, not only is a crucial element of ensuring safety and efficient travel for road users but also can be a great support in decision making process of road authorities. Up-to-date information about road conditions seems to be particularly important in the mountainous and submontane areas, where meteorological factors can change relatively rapidly. The paper presents the results of field tests on the pavement temperature performance in the submontane area in the city of Bielsko-Biala. Presented measurements were performed using a mobile road weather information sensor, installed on the vehicle. The test runs were pursued in variable weather conditions both by day and by night. Authors analysed the repeatability of measured indications and factors affecting fluctuations of pavement temperature.
