Overall DNA-turnover was determined in 19 inbred strains and F 1 -hybrid mice. A continuous range was observed suggesting polygenic control of the steady state. An association with a number of specified genes was found. The effect(s) of three non- H-2 histocompatibility loci, H-1 , H-3 , and H-4 , are the subject of present investigations. No correlation exists between DNA-turnover and strain dependent tumorigenesis. It is probable, therefore, that malignant transformation is an abrupt event which can neither be determined nor predicted from the quality of the steady state control. |
