Popis: Cryptostegia madagascariensis – Cm - and C. grandiflora – Cg - (Apocynaceae) – rubbervine (unha-do-diabo in Brazil) are vines which are native, and were restricted to Madagascar but were distributed as ornamentals in the tropics, becoming devastating ecosystem invaders (McFadyen and Harvey 1990; Herrera and Major 2006). Invasions in Australia by Cg were successfully controlled through the release of a rust fungus (Maravalia cryptostegiae) (Evans and Tomley 1994) but nothing has been done to control Cm infestations in northeastern Brazil yet. During a visit to rubbervine infested areas of Ceara and Piaui (Brazil) - July 2015 - plants at most sites were found to be healthy, except for one Cm population at the border of the river Paranaiba. Many Cm leaves, at that locality, had circular to irregular spots with light brown or white centers delimited by dark brown edges and surrounded by a light brown halo. These were 0.6 to 1.1 cm diam, and were accompanied by foliage yellowing and defoliation of plants. A sp...
