Popis: Low bulk density, variable moisture content and uncertain composition of lignocellulosic biomass impose a major challenge for efficient and cost effective transport and storage to a bio-refinery. The current densification method, pelletization, involves the use of mechanical pressure to reduce the volume of biomass for efficient handling, transport and storage. This process removes all the bottlenecks utilizing biomass for energy production. This method, however, is still costly compared with the price of other fuels. A granulation technique has the potential to produce dense biological granules that can be used as an alternative fuel source at relatively low cost.
