Popis: The solidification defects like shrinkage cavity, porosity can be minimized by designing an appropriate feeding system ensuring directional solidification in the casting. Gating and feeding system values vary according to geometry of the component. Riser should provide sufficient amount of capacity to provide the required amount of molten metal and should solidify at the last after solidifying casting. The objective is to explore and find the shrinkage porosity values for different riser height which maximizes the yield of casting and minimizes defects by selecting optimal riser height. Similarly, the effect of riser heights on yield was also studied. By this optimal design, a pattern was prepared by using 3D printing with FDM technique with Polylactic acid (PLA) material.
