When the Fe content in Al alloys was high, Fe-rich phases usually were precipitated in the forms of thick flaky or needle-like, which can greatly reduce the mechanical properties. One research area was how to reduce Fe content in Al alloys, and another was that changing the morphology of Fe-rich precipitates in the form of thick flaky or needle-like into regular morphologies such as rod-like, massive, even spherical, and its grain size was refined by some technologies such as alloying, cooling control, heat treatment, et al. and this would greatly improve the mechanical properties of Al alloys. The research of Al alloys with high Fe content was already one hotpot in the fields of novel Al materials study and had made some progress. |
