Popis: | Mudcake buildup has a direct impact on expensive drilling and production problems, such as wellbore instability, pipe sticking, formation damage, and impairment of wellbore logging interpretation. Therefore, a better understanding of filtration and mudcake buildup is very valuable. This paper presents a predictive filtration model that accounts for the mudcake compressibility and captures non-uniform filtercake properties profiles. The model solves for the effective stresses acting across the mudcake thickness, based on which mudcake properties profiles are calculated. The mudcake is modeled as a stack of thin sub-layers, with each having its own properties. The porosity and permeability relations with effective stress are determined using the Odometer test, which is analyzed based on Terzaghi's theory for 1D consolidation. A detailed derivation of the model's equations is presented. Also, a computationally efficient pseudo-code solving the model's equations is suggested. Finally, the derived model is validated using experimental filtration results. |
