PREFERENTIAL EXCITATION OF REFRACTING INTERFACES BY USE OF A SOURCE ARRAY

Popis: | Normally, the method of isolating the critically refracted energy from a single interface has been the design of shot to recorder distance to make a particular refraction the first arrival. Later energy, associated with the same interface and from other interfaces, plus scattered energy produces a complex interference pattern following the first arrival which often can not be interpreted. However, the received data may be processed by array techniques to separate these interfering events. The technique presented here involves the use of a source array, each element in the array being separately recorded and digitally combined to provide, in turn, preferential excitation of each of the refracting interfaces of interest. Field recordings for a single source‐receiver geometry have been processed to separate the interfering energy from two refracting interfaces to the extent that the secondary event may be used for mapping. Array processing also facilitates the study of late arriving scattered events. |
