Popis: Field collections of insects in the vicinity of poultry flocks infected with the virus of exotic viscerotropic, velogenic Newcastle disease (VVND) were made in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, southern California. Virus was isolated from 3 pools of Fannia canicularis (L.) and 1 of F. femoralis (Stein). Another pool of F. canicularis contained a mesogenic ND virus, and 1 pool of Musca domestica L. larvae had VVND virus. Newcastle disease virus was not isolated from 117 pools of M. domestica adults nor from 19 pools of Muscina stabulans (Fallen) tested. None of the other insect species collected showed evidence of the presence of Newcastle disease virus.
