Popis: | The pathogenicity and histopathology of a nuclear polyhedrosis virus isolated from the alfalfa looper, Autographa californica (Speyer), was studied in the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hubner). Neonate larvae were treated per os with the virus, and up to 84.7% of the insects was killed over a 35-day period. Inclusion bodies were found in the hypodermis, fat body, tracheal matrix, testes, nerve ganglia, muscle, hemocytes, and hindgut by using light microscopy. Under electron microscopy, several types of inclusion bodies were observed, some with singly embedded virions, some void of virions, and some with both singly and multiply embedded virions. |
