Popis: Following microvascular reconstructive procedures, it is beneficial to maintain a high blood flow through the vascular pedicle during the critical period as this decreases the risk of thrombosis and failure. Blood flow is dependent on perfusion pressure and vascular resistance. Changes in vascular diameter and viscosity are the main determinants of blood flow in a flap. Increase in temperature causes vasodilation and decreased viscosity, and hence increase in blood flow. The benefit of maintaining a preset constant warm ambient temperature of 34°C in the postoperative care of microvascular reconstructive procedures is achieved by using the Ambience Control Device, which is an incubator with a closed environment warmed by a servo-feedback heating mechanism. It also has the advantages of patient comfort and ease of use.
