Popis: | The genus Mimosa (fam: Leguminosae) includes 400 tropical and subtropical species, nat ives of America and a few scattered over Africa and Asia. About seven species occur in India' . M. pudica Linn is found over the greater parts of tropical and subtropical India2. The roots are used for the treatment of gravellish complaints. asthma, leucoderma, di seases of the blood and are .reported to contain C-gl ycosyl-f1avone-2"-0-rhamnosylorienti and its isomer C-glycosy!-f1avone-2" -O-ramnosyfisorientin . Previous invest igat ion on the leaves of the plant revealed the presence of 4-0-(3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid)-~-D-glucuronide5, a polyhydric cyclohexane, D-pinit01 and turgorins7. The fatty acid composItIOns of acyl glycerols, sterol esters, phosphotide., and glyco lipids obtained from the leaves have been studied by Manjusri el ai.. The present work on the leaves of the plant has led to the isolation of a phenolic compound 1 and a mixture of fatty esters al ong with ~-sitosterol-~-D-glucoside 2 and ~-sitostero l 3 . Compound 1 formed monoacetate la and showed positive test for phenolic and carbonyl groups. UV maximum at 273 nm showed that the carbonyl group is in conjugat ion with phenolic ri ng• Its IR spectrum exhibited bands at 3420 (phenol ic-OH group) , 2915 (methox yl), 1703 (carbonyl ), 1625, 1568, 820 (aromatic system) 3nd 720, 71 3 cm-' (a long ali hatic chain). The 'H NMR spectrum showed a three proton triplet at 8 0.93 and a doublet at l.05 for tenninal methyl groups and a three proton singlet at 0 3.92 for methoxy gfGU p. A broad signal at 8 i.231.38 for protons of methylene groups; two multiplets, at miz43 I miz 487 |
