Popis: An extension of Trench 8 from the original Evaluation trenching program of works to expose and record the neighbouring blind back houses in their full extent. The exposure of two rows of blind back houses that had see extensive remodelling to their lay out and form between the late 18th century and the early 20th century. The extent archaeology present within both the evaluation trenching and strip, map and record stages of the investigation is fairly substantial. Particularly in the extension of trench 8, the level of preservation allowed a wide sequence of construction to be recorded effectively which helps the understanding of working and middle class dwellings below stairs. Whilst not all of the research aims and objectives could be achieved, the presence of archaeological evidence to suggest cellar occupation was continuing in areas even after it was made illegal provides material support to the cartographical and census records. The archaeology encountered during this investigation has revealed a multi phased development that had gone through multiple stages of renovation to suit the inhabitants of the dwellings. Little survived in the way of backyards or external areas to further inform our understanding but the sequencing of the structures has provided us with important information as to the use and reshaping of cellar housing through the industrial period.
