Popis: A microscopic model is presented to provide a qualitative basis for understanding the Fe(II)\(\rightleftarrows\)Fe(III) transition accompanying molecular distortions induced by the electron transfer in hemoproteins. The coupling of iron ions with the intramolecular distortions and the intermolecular coupling between the molecular distortions are the driving force of the Fe(II)\(\rightleftarrows\)Fe(III) transitions in the present model where the electron number of the system is varied as an external parameter. It is shown that the various types of the Fe(II)\(\rightleftarrows\)Fe(III) transitions such as continuous or discontinuous and with or without the molecular distortions may occur with changing the number of electrons.
