Popis: Ln a series of 14 tests using lymphocytes from the peripheral blood of normal healthy adults, we were successful in inducing cytotoxicity for allogeneic colonic epithelial cells by preliminary incubation of the lymphocytes with a lipopolysaccharide extract from Escherichia coli O119:B14, but not by the use of phytohemagglutinin or by incubation alone. The cytotoxicity was unrelated to the incidence of blast transformation in the lymphocytes per se and could not be attributed to allogeneic inhibition. In three tests no cytotoxicity of lymphocytes for ileal epithelial cells could be induced, although the lymphocytes treated with the extract of E. coli became cytotoxic for colonic cells. When lymphocytes were used from 2 patients with dys- gammaglobulinemia, no cytotoxicity for colonic cells was induced by treatment of the lymphocytes with the extract of E. coli O119:B14 or phytohemagglutinin.
