Recent investigations indicate a correlation between the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and the occurrence of some N-heterocyclic compounds, especially derivatives of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ) and l,2,3,4-tetrahydro-s-carboline (THBC). Whereas the occurrence of some derivatives of THIQ could be demonstrated in human blood and urine, the presence of specific THBC’s remained unclear because of the lack of a sensitive and selective analytical screening method, generally suitable for a larger series of THBC’s. In order to be able to determine THBC’s of a larger variety of structures in urine samples of PD patients and control persons, we developed an analytical method based on gas chromatography (GC) with mass spectrometric (MS) detection. |
