The modalities of strengthening mechanisms of a highly conductive copper matrix have been presented. Dispersoid, precipitation as well as combination of both hardening mechanisms have been discussed. The prealloyed copper powders Cu-l, 5wt%Ti, Cu-1, 5wt%Ti-2, 8wt%TiSi2 and Cu-1, 9wt%Al2O3 have been used as a starting materials. The powders have been hot pressed up to theoretical density and subsequently heat treated (Cu-Ti and Cu-Ti-TiSi2 systems). The hardness of the samples has been measured at room and elevated temperatures up to 700°C. The hardening effects of the copper matrix depend on type and particle sizes of the precipitates and dispersoids, as well as their stability at elevated temperatures. |
