Popis: This chapter provides a detailed description of the technology of three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting. It presents the reasons that have led to the introduction of 3D bioprinting in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine and its evolution through the years. It also defines what bioprinting means, presents the components of the bioprinting process including the existing bioprinting methods and their characteristics, the bioinks used so far and the criteria for the selection of the suitable biomaterial, and also mentions the role of stem cells in bioprinting. Furthermore, it analyzes the stages of the bioprinting process and the parameters involved in each stage. Then, it presents the applications of 3D bioprinting in specific tissues and/or organs, including the cartilage, skin, cardiac tissue, ear, liver, kidney, bladder, and the bioprinting of 3D microchannels in an effort of vascularization. In addition, it presents the latest advances concerning the clinical applications of 3D bioprinted structures.
