Popis: | A Rangoon creeper flower (RCF) extract was investigated as green inhibitor to mitigate corrosion of mild steel in 1 M HCl solution. In the study, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, polarization techniques, and gravimetric methods were used. A significant reduction in the corrosion rate with increased concentrations of the RCF extract at varied temperatures was noted. The inhibition of the corrosion process is due to the adsorption of the RCF extract on the mild steel surface. Polarization measurements revealed that the RCF extract was an inhibitor of a mixed type. The adsorption of the inhibitor on the mild steel surface followed the Langmuir isotherm. Functional groups present in the RCF extracts were recognized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy was applied to examine the surface morphology of mild steel. |
