Popis: Ethynodiol diacetate and mestranol, separately or in combination, prevent establishment of pregnancy in rats and rabbits when administered in sufficient dosage. This property is common to estrogens in these species. Treatment of pregnant rats with ethynodiol diacetate and mestranol did not produce birth defects. Measurement of the anogenital distance did not disclose any masculinizing effect on the female young nor any feminizing effect on the male offspring. Furthermore, at maturity these young were shown to be fertile. The incidence of birth defects in rabbits was not increased by treatment with ethynodiol diacetate throughout pregnancy. The offspring were fertile.
