Popis: A study of the influence of a stock diet and a rice diet on the course of experimentally induced nephrosis has been made in Wistar rats. After the development of the nephrosis if the rats are kept on the stock diet they will maintain the proteinuria, a high blood cholesterol, a low albumin and a high alpha-l-globulin. The histological examination of the animals kidneys showed that the majority of them had severe damage of its parenchyma. On the other hand when the animals are kept on the rice diet there is a great tendency for a complete recovery of the syndrome. There is a decrease of the protein in urine and a return to normal of blood cholesterol and serum proteins. The pathological study of the kidneys showed that 11 out of 22 rats do not present lesions; the other ones show only lesions of moderate degree at the end of a 4 month period of diet. The importance of the sodium content and especially the quantity and the quality of the food protein is discussed as being responsible for these results.
