Popis: | Anorectal or anopouch manometry plays a key role in the evaluation of functional pouch disorders, such as dyssynergic defecation and irritable pouch syndrome. Manometry can reliably measure sensation and sphincter pressure in the evaluation of incontinence and nocturnal seepage in patients with pouches. In addition, manometric abnormalities such as paradoxical contractions, can be present in patients with mechanical or inflammatory disorders of the pouch, such as afferent limb syndrome, pouch prolapse, pouchitis, cuffitis, and Crohn’s disease of the pouch. Physical therapy of functional pouch disorders may be beneficial to the treatment of mechanical or inflammatory disorders. On the other hand, medical or surgical treatment of the mechanical and inflammatory disorders of the pouch may help improve symptomatology and manometric features in those with functional pouch disorders. Manometry may also be performed to document the response to physical therapy for pelvic floor or anal sphincter dysfunction. |
