Popis: The photodegradation of poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) (PtBMA) and polystyrene (PS) films under 100 ppm sulfur dioxide and 100 ppm nitrogen dioxide in air and mixtures of the gases in air at constant temperature (30 °C) and relative humidity (30 %) was studied. In the presence of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, under irradiation the polymers show a rapid degradation, while the thermal degradation is very small as well as the photodegradation in air. Peroxide groups in the polymer have an accelerating effect on the photodegradation in presence of the gases as well as dew and dry cycles (15 min each). An equation was derived to characterize the degradation by a linear and an autoacceleration factor.
