Popis: Inconel 625 based alloys with different iron contents were prepared by arc-melting. Alloys with up to 5 wt% iron are composed of the γ matrix, metal monocarbides (MC) and Laves precipitates. Alloys with 10–15 wt% iron comprise the γ matrix and γ/Laves eutectic-like constituent. MC precipitates are cathodic and the Laves phase anodic with respect to the matrix. In 3.5 wt% NaCl, alloys with 10–15 wt%, iron showed improved corrosion behavior compared to 5 wt% iron due to absence of MC phase formation. The results are important as they potentially allow faster and more economical welding processes to be employed.
