With the aid of a stereospecific modification of the Wittig reaction the total syntheses of the following were carried out: cis-8-hexadecenoic acid, cis-11-hexadecenoic acid, cis-7-octadecenoic acid, and cis-9-hexacosenoic acid. 2. A new variant of the stereospecific synthesis of unsaturated fatty acids having cis configuration at the double bond is proposed: it is based on the condensation of alkylidenetriphenylphosphoranes withω-formylalkanoic esters.
