Popis: An electric specimen heater for diffraction studies at temperatures up to 1500°F is described. Specimens up to ½‐inch square may be heated by the element which fits in the vacuum chamber upon the regular stage of an RCA‐Type EMD‐2 diffraction camera. The principal problem is the reduction of stray magnetic fields from heater wires to a negligible value. This is achieved by using low current in high‐resistance wire and reverse winding the heater coils. Radiation and conduction losses are cut to a minimum by enclosing the heater element in ``LAVA'' except for a window over which the specimen is mounted. Dc power is taken from the power supply for the valving system.
