Popis: | Short, horizontally placed plates are frequently welded to beam or girder webs for the purpose of attaching horizontal bracing. In the presence of fluctuating load, this type of detail will influence the allowable fatigue stress range. Current North American specifications have included this detail on the basis of judgement only. The tests reported herein examine the fatigue life of such a detail, including both the influence of the detail and the effect of attaching the bracing members. The results show that the fatigue life is governed by the detail itself and not by the forces introduced by the bracing. They show that the identification of this type of attachment as fatigue category E (Canadian Standards Association) is satisfactory. |
