This chapter attempts to draw parallels between Professor Gunilla Bradley’s Convergence Model and the body of work by a now seemingly obscure architect and urban planner, Constantinos A. Doxiadis. Doxiadis developed the theory of ’Ekistics’ as an attempt to systematize the analysis of ’human settlements’, his general term for intentional habitats of any scale organized by humans. Ekistics is not seen by this author as necessarily the sole nor ideal perspective from which to evaluate Bradley’s work. It is, nonetheless, seen as relevant, useful, and intriguing for several reasons, the most compelling of which is that Doxiadis offered clear ideas for the practice of Ekistics that could be used as a template for future work in operationalising Bradley’s Convergence Model. |
