Popis: | In this paper, the performance of five electrode configurations for particle sorters based on negative dielectrophoresis is compared using a novel analysis method. By equating the formulas for dielectrophoresis, drag and buoyancy, the velocity vectors for the particles with respect to the liquid can be obtained. This information is combined with the liquid velocity vectors to calculate three-dimensional particle trajectories. The maximum allowed flow-speed at which the sorters still work properly is the criterion applied to compare their performance. For the five different electrode configurations analysed, the performance varied as much as a factor five, where configurations with electrodes on both sides of the channel proved to have the best performance. |
