Synopsis The radioactive decay of 112Pd → 112Ag → 112Cd has been investigated both with a βγ-coincidence apparatus and with a single channel Nal (Tl) scintillation spectrometer. A short description of the main features of the instruments is given. In the 112Pd β-decay a γ-ray of about 18 keV was found. Coincidence absorption measurements with 112Ag yielded a complex β-spectrum with a maximum energy of 4.1 ± 0.3 MeV (~ 25%), leading to the groundstate of 112Cd, and at least two other components of ~ 3.5 MeV and ~ 1.5 MeV with roughly equal intensities. The main γ-transition in 112Ag has an energy of 620 ± 15 keV, while there is evidence for the presence of several more weak γ-lines in the energy ranges below 500 keV and between 1 and 2 MeV. A decay scheme and spin assignments for the levels which belong to the principal modes of decay are proposed. Redetermination of amk of the 87 keV γ-ray in 109Pd yielded 9.2 ± 1.5. |
