Popis: We show two discrete memoryless source (DMS) rate-distortion (R-D) problems with continuous alphabets where the optimal reconstruction distributions are discrete. The first problem is a Gaussian distributed source with square error distortion but a peak-limited reconstruction alphabet. The second is a source distribution related to the generalized inverse Gaussian (GIG) distribution with a certain distortion measure.
