Presently there is no satisfactory technical solution available for the limitation of reverse currents during installation and operation of a PV plant. The application of string fuse is very expensive and may cause new safety problems. The favoured design of fuse-less PV plants will become possible with technical realization of a device, which covers the requirements derived from the system analysis. An electronic PV fuse is introduced to avoid reverse currents in a PV array. This approach improves the safety of PV plants by reducing total system costs (TCO: total costs of ownership).
