Popis: | Weekly average levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) were measured in the winter in 29 homes of school children living in two deprived areas of London. In the kitchens with a gas cooker, the mean level was 36.9 ppb (SD±19.7). In two living rooms with a kerosene space heater the only two levels were 37.7 and 47.9 ppb. In the one bedroom with kerosene space heater, the level was 65.9 ppb. Presence of gas cooker and kerosene space heaters were each associated with significant increases in the levels of NO2 (p < 0.05). The levels were lower than expected, perhaps because of the mild winter. |
