This work introduces a dedicated small-scale experiment aiming to investigate the pressure and impulse in a vented volume submitted to an internal detonation. A cylindrical highexplosive charge detonates into a building vented by four openings. Various experimental diagnostics were used in order to directly measure or indirectly estimate the internal impulse. Thus, the reflected pressure on the side walls were recorded, as well as the acceleration, velocity and elevation of the mobile roof thanks to different means. A mechanism similar to a blowpipe was also tested: the internal pressure accelerates the projectile and a PDV probe registers its velocity. The overall agreement between all the diagnostics is rather good, but some of them appear to be unsuitable while others need further analysis or improve. The experimental set-up and some of the associated diagnostics appear to be quite appropriate for further investigation on the effects of metallic casing and fragment-induced concrete dust on internal pressure and impulse in a vented building. |
