Popis: While the incorporation of electrical actuating and electronics-based control systems have improved vehicular efficiency, the probability of malfunction of any of the electrical or electronic system within the automobile has increased that can result in serious consequences like roadside breakdown, long repair time and increase of maintenance cost. Thus, an early fault diagnosis especially in automotive systems has become very important as it helps to maintain good vehicle uptime, reduce fuel consumption and improve safety while maintaining efficient service and maintenance. This work has focused on early and accurate diagnosis of starter motor fault in vehicle system. Here, a commonly used automotive consisting of a battery, alternator, starter solenoid, a starter motor and additional on-board accessories system has been modeled, and study has been made. The fault diagnosis has been done by monitoring of current transients and measurement of maxima minima of transients. These points are measure in time domain, and the system response for starter motor fault has been observed. The change in maximum and minimum value of current response along with response slope has been recorded with change in stator armature inductance simulating winding fault. The data has been recorded from MATLAB data file from workspace generated while running the system simulation. Accurate diagnosis has been observed at different conditions. A novel outcome of this work is effective and quick diagnosis of starter fault which may help to prove alert signals and reduce repair time.
