Deuteration effect on the hyperfine quadrupole interaction in (NH4)2FeCl5.H2O

Popis: 57Fe Mossbauer spectra have been recorded for the deuterated compound (ND4)2FeCl5.D2O over the temperature range 4.5–300 K. The quadrupole splitting shows a pronounced temperature dependence. Although this is similar in form to that found previously for (NH4)2FeCl5.H2O, there is a small but significant difference in magnitude at low temperature. This is attributed to differences in the zero-point torsional motion of the ammonium ions in their equilibrium orientations.
