A project on ‘Animal Waste Management and Utilisation’, initiated in 1975 by the Government of Singapore and funded by the United Nations Development Programme and other agencies, has established a research and development programme of resource recovery from the wastes generated by intensive pig estates. Systems to recover energy, nutrients and water for reuse are being investigated and demonstrated in pilot plants. Details of some of the systems now working and results of the experiments are given. |
