Popis:	Olefins react with diols (e.g. ethylene glycol) under oxidative carbonylation and acidic conditions, using palladium and copper (II) chloride as catalysts, to give hydroxy esters in good yields; this mild reaction (room temperature, 1 atm) is a regioselective one.
