Popis: Film temperature measurements during the electrodeposition of cathodic electroprimers suggest that, unlike anodic primers, film rupture is due to sparking which occurs within hydrogen bubbles in the deposited polymer film. Sparking is a consequence of Paschen's law, and is related to the nature of the metal substrate through the electron work function, as well as being dependent on the uniformity and nature of the polymer film. Evidence is presented to support this view by showing that external pressure can either increase or decrease the rupture voltage, depending on the nature of the film.
