Popis: | The relationship between the plasma ketone body ratio (acetoacetate:3-hydroxybutyrate) in peripheral arterial and central venous blood was investigated in 49 children admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit. The patients had a median age of 1.0 years (range: 0-16.6 years) and a median Paediatric Risk of Mortality (PRISM) score of 11 (range: 0-36). Suppression of ketogenesis was confirmed before simultaneous paired peripheral arterial and central venous blood samples were taken for the measurement of plasma acetoacetate and 3-hydroxybutyrate concen-trations. In peripheral arterial blood the mean acetoacetate:3-hydroxybutyrate ratio (AKBR) was 0.70 (range: 0.13-1.46). The mean central venous blood ratio (VKBR) was significantly lower (p |
