Popis: The problem of daily fossil fuel management for electrical generators has become more complex with the use of fuels of different types, from different sources and costs at each generating unit. In addition, physical constraints and contractual limitations may impose upper and lower bounds on the amounts of each fuel that are available. The problem is to minimize the total cost of fuel by choice of the amount of each type fuel used for each unit in each operating period of the day subject to the constraints on fuel availability. Four algorithms have been developed and are presented. While the basis or strategy used in each varies, the results are fairly close. The correct choice of algorithm used will depend on the ease of solution and the ability to implement the strategy through actual generating plant instrumentation and control.
