Popis: | This overview of the history of the Australian Entomological Society is based on a keynote presentation made by the first author to the 45th Scientific Conference of the Society in Canberra, September 2014. It summarises the efforts over many years to establish a national entomological Society and provides details of the visionaries involved in the eventual creation of the society despite certain rivalries and the political manoeuvring that was needed to negotiate a path to the Society that we know and love today. It also covers the evolution of the society's publications, the various awards given by the society and the establishment of the society in the international community through hosting the International Congress of Entomology in Australia in 1972. |
