Popis: The instability of musical texts, a well-documented feature of nineteenth-century opera, poses problems for the music analyst. This book deals with the problem pragmatically. For each opera, a single text is chosen for analysis. Where different versions of an opera exist, the first version is favored. Critical editions are used where available. Some operas express the modern work-concept more strongly than others.
