Professional football clubs in the Republic of Croatia operate in two very different legal regimes - civil associations and joint-stock companies. The authors analyse the situation where professional clubs who participate at the same level of competition operate in a different legal regime. The possibility of introducing a new model of football club ownership structure in which a civil association appears as one of the shareholders of a football club, solely or as a majority shareholder, is discussed. The authors conclude that this model of football governance, which has been particularly developed in Germany, could be the optimal model for the Republic of Croatia and could have a positive influence on supporters’ inclusion in football governance in Croatia and other South-Eastern European countries. |
