Popis: | Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is a new class of air vehicles for which many of the options in design are still fairly open. This also includes UAV health management and with this, structural health monitoring (SHM). This article presents a procedure by which SHM technology can be selected, which meets the requirements that have been set for the monitoring of the UAV system. Derivation of these requirements is made from a set of top-level requirements of the UAVs. Aspects such as the need for decision support, operational cost reduction through SHM, as well as SHM certification is discussed. Much emphasis is placed on the issue of integrating SHM into the UAV health management system. This is discussed along the needs of loads and damage monitoring and how this can be linked with Open Systems Architecture for Condition-Based Maintenance (OSA-CBM). This article presents a procedure along which SHM technology can be selected, which allows to match the requirements that have been set for the UAV system to be monitored. Keywords: unmanned aerial vehicles; operational requirements; functional requirements; system requirements; SHM technology selection; decision support |
