Popis: Calcification of dental enamel involves the deposition and growth of large, well-formed, highly-orientated crystallites of hydroxyapatite. Nucleation and crystal growth occur within a highly-specific matrix, the proteins of which exhibit a unique amino acid composition. Matrix degradation and its replacement by tissue fluid permits crystallite growth, so that almost the entire tissue volume is occupied ultimately by apatite crystallites.
