In the period of March, 1986 to March, 1990, the authors studied the changes in oxygenation and regression of cervix uteri tumors for their dependence on the doses of 252Cf applied in the first week of therapy. Ninety-four patients were divided into four groups: a group treated by conventional gamma 226Ra radiation, those treated by 252Cf to 16 Gy-eq and 41 Gy-eq at point A supplement by gamma 226Ra, and a group treated only by 252Cf to 56 Gy-eq. The intracavitary dose applied in all patients was 6 Gy-eq using an RBE of neutron component for 252Cf as 6. A 20 MeV x-ray beam was used for external irradiation to a dose of 49 Gy. The pO2 changes within the tumor were followed at one week intervals up to the sixth week of therapy by means of a polarographic method. The volume changes of the cervix tumor were studied using a CT scan. |
