Popis: The complex mer-[IrH3(PPh3)3]· 1 2 C6H6 has been identified by infra-red spectroscopy and a three-dimensional X-ray structural analysis. The complex crystallises in space group P??? with two molecules in a unit cell of dimensions a = 20.5703(15), b = 9.5385(9), c = 12.4486(6) A, α = 105.41(1), β = 82.70(1), γ = 100.28(1)°. Block-diagonal least-squares refinement has returned a final r factor of 0.048 for 3969 reflections for which > 3σ(1). The complex is monomeric with a distorted octahedral co-ordination geometry in which three adjacent sites are occupied by the phosphorus atoms. Hydrogens have been located from an inspection of successive 'difference' maps computed with decreasing values of sinΘmax/λ.
